In the newest addition to our Hair Loss Library database of articles, HTW member and veteran hair transplant surgeon Dr. Robert Haber of Ohio discusses the evolution of hair transplant surgery and how this has lead to a pivotal moment in the hair restoration field: the illegal delegation of FUE surgery. In the article, originally written for the ISHRS Forum International, Dr. Haber explains how device manufacturing companies are selling non-hair transplant doctors “profit center” turn-key FUE devices, and how these doctors, untrained in surgical hair restoration, are relying on their technicians (or technicians provided by these companies) to perform the surgery.
This practice is illegal, and has been on the “radar” of Dr. Alan Feller and myself, Dr. Blake Bloxham, for quite some time. Once we read Dr. Haber’s excellent article, we thought it would make a great addition to the Hair Loss Library database; and Dr. Haber graciously agreed to do a Skype interview to discuss the article and the growing problem of illegal delegation of FUE surgery — and some potential solutions as well.
